The Solar Decathlon India is a competition among post graduate and graduate students from Indian institutions to empower the next generation to combat Climate Change in the buildings sector. Using a competition platform, the competition reaches out to 500,000 engineering + architecture students across India and invites them to innovate for net-zero-energy, net-zero-water, net-zero-waste and climate resilient buildings.
Who?
The Solar Decathlon India is conducted by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) and the Alliance for an Energy Efficiency Economy (AEEE) under the aegis of the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF).
Why?
Climate Change is jeopardising our lives and livelihoods. Extreme weather events and heat islands are more frequent today than ever. To reduce global warming to 1.5°C and support India’s Nationally Determined Contributions as a commitment to the Paris Climate agreement we must achieve a 50% reduction in building energy demand by 2050.
Accelerated action starts with resilient net-zero-energy buildings. We view Solar Decathlon India as the harbinger of change that nurtures India’s demographic dividend to provide sensible design solutions for communities vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. It addresses 10 out of 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and paves the way for a low-carbon future.
When?
Registrations for Solar Decathlon India are open till 31 August 2020.
